Ancient, Baluchistan Region, Parata Rajas, Datarvharna, (c. 2nd-3rd Century AD), Bronze Di-Drachm, 4.63 gms, 18.89 mm, Obverse: Diademed head of king standing, head turned to his right, wearing turban, Reverse: Swastika at center, Kharoshthi legend around reading anti-clockwise from 1 O clock as ‘DatarvharnasaDatayolaputrasaParatarajasa’, A choice specimen with full legend seen, Dātārṇa (Datarvharna) was a Parata ruler of the north-western Indian frontier (c. 1st century BC – 1st century AD), known only from his coins. He ruled in the Sindh–Makran–southern Punjab–eastern Iran region, and his name appears in Prakrit/Kharoshthi legends as “Rajaraja Datarvharna” or “Datarna”. His coinage is important for understanding the transition from Indo-Greek and Indo-Scythian to early Indo-Parthian rule in this frontier zone. Pieper # 3320, pg. 536, about very fine, very rare in this grade.
