Ancient, Gupta Period, (c. 5th-6th Century AD), Gold Seal, 1.13 gms, 10.34 mm, Obverse: Brahmi legend at center reading as ‘Bhagada(de)vasya’ inside two concentric circles, wavy design around, Reverse: Double hooks, The inscription “Bhagdevasya” means “of Bhagdeva”, indicating ownership by a person named Bhagdeva. Such objects are personal signet seals, not coins, used to stamp clay or wax on documents or goods for identification or official authentication. The seal likely belonged to an office bearer or administrator named Bhagdeva and can be dated to the Gupta period based on the palaeography of the legend.
