Ancient, Indo-Scythians, Apracha Rajas of Bajaur, Vijayamitra (12 BC to 20 AD), Silver Tetradrachm, 8.98 gms, 22.88 mm, Obv: King on horseback to right holding whip, partial Greek legends 'BAΣIΛEΩΣ BAΣIΛEΩN MEΓAΛOY AZOY' around, Rev: Pallas standing, holding long spear and small shield, nandipada to left, monogram to right with partial Kharosthi legends 'Apraca rajasa Vijayamitrasa' around, Senior # 175.241, very fine+, very rare.
Note: Vijayamitra was an Apracha king who ruled in Gandhara, with his capital in Bajaur, from approximately 12 BC to 20 CE. As a significant supporter of Buddhism, he dedicated a Buddhist reliquary, known as in the Shinkot casket, and some of his coins feature the Buddhist Triratna symbol. He succeeded his predecessor Visnuvarma and was followed by his son, Indravasu.
