Ancient, Kushanas, Kanishka I (128-150 AD), Copper Tetradrachm, 16.44 gms, 23.92 mm, Obverse: Crowned and diademed king standing, holding a spear and sacrificing at fire altar at left, Bactrian legend around, Reverse: Maitreya Buddha seated frontally on a meditation platform, Bactrian legend around partially reading ‘MHTPAΓO BOYΔO’, Maitreya Buddha was a prophesied future Buddha to be born to uphold Dharma. These coins depicting Buddha are believed to be minted after the Fourth Buddhist Council held by Kushan King Kanishka I at Kashmir, Gobl # 793, fine, very rare.
