Hindu Medieval, Chandellas of Jajekabhukti, Trailokya Varman (c. 1203-1245 AD), Base Gold 4-1/2 Masha, 4.11 gms, 18.56 mm, Obverse: Seated Goddess Lakshmi facing, Reverse: Devanagari Legend in three lines reading ‘Shrimat-Tri/lokyaVa/mmaDeva’, The Chandellas under Paramardi's successor Trailokya Varman (ca. 1203/5-1245/7 CE) regained both their independence and their great fortress. From this point, however, the volume of their gold coin mintage diminished considerably. The coins of Trailokya Varman are very scarce, Trailokyavarman was a prominent ruler of the Chandella dynasty of Jajekabhukti (Bundelkhand), who reigned roughly from AD 1203 to 1245 after the fall of Kalinjar to the Ghurids. His rule marked a period of recovery for the Chandellas, during which he re-established control over parts of their former territories, maintained traditional centres like Mahoba and Kalinjar, and asserted authority through military campaigns against neighboring powers; he also issued significant coinage and left inscriptions recording grants and religious patronage, making him the last major Chandella king to temporarily revive the dynasty’s political strength before its final decline, Ref # Deyell, Lakshmi: Bearer of riches, 4.7/D-141+3, pg. 92, 263, very fine, very rare.
