Qarlughid, Saif Al-Din Hasan Qarlugh (621-647 AH / 1224-1249 CE), Silver Tanka, 10.89 gms, 24.03 mm, NM, ND, citing Caliph al-Mustansir, both sides within ornate dotted borders, Obverse: Shahadah with the name of Caliph Al-Mustanisr cited as Amir Al-Momineen (Commander of the faithful), Reverse: Saif Al-Dunya wa Al-Deen Abu’l Muzaffar Al-Hassan Qalugh (transl. Sword of the world and the religion, father of the victorious, Al-Hassan Qarlugh), Hassan Qarlugh was a general in the army of the Khwarizmshah Jalal al-Din Mangubarni, the famous foe of Chingiz Khan. He took control of the Kurram and Kabul vallies (present day Pakistan and Afghanistan) and established a buffer state between the Dehli Sultanate (to its east) and the Mongols (to its west), His silver coins are struck to the tanka standard that was used in the Dehli Sultanate, The specimen presented is similar in design and fabric to the tankas of Sultan Iltutmish (reign: 1211-1236 CE) of Dehli struck from the region of Sind, Album # 1813.2, G&G # SS10, choice extra fine (high grade specimen), rare.
