Gujarat Sultanates, Shams al-Din Muzaffar Shah III (second reign AH 991-992, 1583-1584 AD), Silver Rupee, 11.17 gms, 22.27 mm, Ahmedabad, Dar al Darb Mint, Rebellion issue, AH 991, legend within square area on both sides, Muzaffar revolted during the reign of Emperor Akbar and in 1583 regained the throne of Ahmedabad for approximately a year and issued coins which were very similar to the coins of Akbar, However, later Muzaffar’s position became untenable and he had to flee to take refuge with the Rao of Kutch, who handed him over to the Mughals, Rather than living in captivity, Muzaffar committed suicide by cutting his neck from a shaving razor, thus putting an end to the Gujarat Sultanate, G&G # G647, very fine, very rare.
