Ancient, Post Guptas, Jishnu-Paramesvara type (c. 6th-7th Century AD), Silver Dramma, 2.38 gms, 14.11 mm, Obverse: Artistic bust of king to right, Legend ‘Jishnu’ seen partially in front of bust, Reverse: Peacock in profile at centre with wings spread, Brahmi legend around from 8 O clock position reading clockwise as ‘VijitaVaniravanapatiParameshwaroDivamJayati’, Dotted border around, An enigmatic post Gupta coin. The coin’s legend brings forth the word ‘parameshwaro’ in the place where usually the ruler’s name is mentioned. As this is a generic name, it is difficult to ascertain the exact issuer from the coin. Nevertheless, considering its Madhyadesha typology and metrology, the coin can be conveniently placed in the post Gupta period, perhaps issued by a vassal of the great emperor Harshavardhana, Pieper # 3712, pg. 622, very fine, extremely rare.
