Independent Kingdoms, Sikh Empire, Sikhs (Misls), Gulab Singh Bhangi (VS 1839-1857, 1782-1800 AD), Gold Mohur, 11.16 gms, 18 mm approx, Amritsar Mint, "Nanakshahi" Couplet, VS 1843, Guru Nanak Era 31x, signifying the number of years from the birth of Guru Nanak, 31(x) in small numerals on the obverse, Misl period, struck in the Bhangi Misl, centered at Amritsar, then under the rule of Ghulab Singh BhangiThis VS1843 mohur was not struck for circulation, but was almost certainly a very special piece / Nazarana or (presentation Coin) ordered by Ghulab Singh Bhangi & the gold coin served the same function as a nazarana mohur, the seventh chief of Bhangi Misl, for presentation for a chief official or for a member of his own family. It was produced from the same dies used for silver rupee, and the actual production was either just a very small group, of which this is one of the finest reported piece, it is of the same type as the silver rupees of type 01.05 and 01.09, respectively.Unlisted by both Herrli and Gurprit Singh, PCGS Graded AU Details (Repaired), exceedingly rare.
