Ghaznavids, Mahmud (reign 389-421 AH / 999-1030 CE), Silver Damma, 0.47 gms, 8.92 mm, No Mint, ND, These Ghaznavid dammas were probably struck immediately after Mamud’s first military campaign against Fatimid rulers of Multan in 396 AH (1005-06 CE), The obverse carries the additional word Arabic word “Haqqan” after the Shahadah, indicating that the Sunni version of the Shahadah which omits the last part of the Fatimid/Shiite shahada: Ali Waliahu (Ali is a friend (saint) of (ordained by) Allah) is the actual true Shahadah. Prior to Mahmud’s campaign against Multan, the Fatimid partisans at Multan issued coins that bore the Shiite/Ismaili shahada and cited the Fatimid Caliphs, Album # 4593, Fishman & Todd # FG4, choice very fine, rare.
