Ancient, Guptas, Kumaragupta I (c. 414-455 AD), ‘Kartikeya’ type, Gold Dinar, 8.14 gms, 17.04 mm, Obverse: King nimbate, standing turned slightly to left side with a halo, bare headed with curly hair with waist band round the waist the ends of which are flowing behind, wearing necklace and wristlets, on left a peacock facing the king, king feeding the peacock from a bunch of grapes held in his right hand, his left hand on his hip, king has dagger on his waist at right, Brahmi legend around partially reading ‘JayatiSvagunairVrtanihanrMahendrakumarah’, Reverse: Lord Kartikeya riding on his peacock parvani, bare headed, having profuse hair on head, wearing ear-rings and necklace, peacock’s head turned to left, Kartikeya holding a spear in left hand over the shoulder and sprinkling incense pellets incense on altar with his right hand, Brahmi legend ‘(Mahen)draku(marah)’ on right field visible partially, S.
