Arab Sasanian Coinage (Islamic pre-reform coinage), Abd Allah b. al-Zubayr (60-73 AH / 680-92 CE), Silver Dirham, 4.06 gms, 30.88 mm, DA in Pahlavi (Darabjird, Fars) Mint, YE 53 (64/65 AH, 684 / 685 CE), Obverse: Sasanian style King’s Bust facing right, name and the caliphal title (APDWLA AMYR-Y WRWYŠNYKAN) in Pahlavi (transl. Abdullah commander of the faithful similar to Abdullah Amir Al-Momineen in Arabic), BismAllah (transl. in the name of Allah) in Kufic in the outer obverse margin at 3-6 o clock, Reverse: Zoroastrian fire altar flanked by two attendants, Mint name DA (Darabjird, Fars) in Pahlavi on the right and Yazdgard Era date 53 YE (SYPNJAH, 684/685 CE) on the left, pellet to the right of the top crescent and star in the outer margin, Walker, Arab-Sasanian # ANS.8, Album # 16, choice very fine, cabinet toning on the edge, very scarce.
