Bengal Sultanate, Ghiytah al-Din Balban (AH 664-686, 1266-1287 AD), Silver Tanka, 10.95 gms, 29.01 mm, Lakhnauti Mint, This specimen shows the beginning part of the mint epithet “bakhitta …” beginning after the word al-Fidda (transl. the (piece of) silver) between 9 and 8 o clock on the reverse. Khitta most probably denotes an administrative unit under the Sultan’s rule. Citing the last Abbasid Caliph al-Mustasim Billah who was deceased at this point in time, G&G # B78, extra fine, very scarce.
