Ancient, Punch Marked Coinage, Magadha Mahajanapada, from lower Middle Ganga Valley, Series 0/1 Transitional, Dumraon hoard type, (5th-4th Century BC), Silver Karshapana, 3.42 gms, 21.41 x 17.16 mm, Obverse: Main punches of Sun, Six arm, Fish, Triangle with pellets, Reverse: Interesting Banker’s marks of sun and elephant, Being of the Karshapana weight standard but having four major punches rather than the usual five punches, coins of the Dumraon hoard type are an important link between the Magadha Series 0 and Series 1 coinage and represent a transition phase, Ref # Dr Rajgor article on Dumraon hoard, Elephant banker mark is seldom seen in Dumraon hoard type coins, very fine, extremely rare.
