Mughal, Akbar (AH 963-1014, 1556-1605 AD), Silver Rupee, 11.08 gms, 21.66 mm, Allahabad Mint (fully visible at bottom on rev), Ilahi Month Amardad (Leo), RY 44 (AH 991), Copper coins are known for many years before this, But copper coins are known from RY 35, It seems that the mint was predominantly producing copper but very rarely struck silver at earlier stage. Fractions are known in private collections, It was named Ilahabas इलाहाबास - neaming “abode of gods”. It was never called "Allahabad" (city of Allah) that is just a colonial spelling / pronunciation. Ilahabad was Akbar's creation, Not just the fort which was build in AH 991 / 1583 AD, The fort is situated & stands on the banks of the river Yamuna. Akbar's fort was constructed in such a way that it enclosed the famous Akshayavata tree, where people would commit suicide in order to achieve salvation. The city ilahabad was founded by him as well; Ilahabad was established as a new city by Akbar near prayag which was just a religious location then. It was named as Out of respect as it was near a pilgrimage site, In AH 1008 / 1600 AD, Mughal prince Salim, the future emperor Jahangir, revolted against his father and established his own court in the Allahabad Fort. He commanded very little territory and was reconciled with his father shortly after, Coins of the Rebellion Issue of Jahangir are known with the same RY 44, making this coin an important link between history & coinage of Akbar the great. Unlisted in KM, very fine+, extremely rare.
