Mughal, Aurangzeb (AH 1068-1118, 1658-1707 AD), Silver Rupee, 11.50 gms, 22.07 mm, Dar ul-Fath Ujjain Mint (fully visible at bottom on rev), with word 'Fateh' as divider on reverse, AH 1109, RY 41, During Aurangzeb's reign AH 1068-1118, 1658-1707 AD), Ujjain was an important
administrative and military centre within the Mughal Subah of Malwa.
Governed by imperial officials such as the Faujdar, Amil, and Qazi, the
city followed the Mughal revenue system established under Akbar. Owing
to Aurangzeb's prolonged Deccan campaigns, Ujjain became a key transit
point for imperial armies and supplies moving between northern India and
the Deccan. Despite its administrative role, it remained one of
Hinduism's foremost pilgrimage centres, centred on the Mahakaleshwar
Jyotirlinga. After Aurangzeb's death in 1707 AD, weakening Mughal authority
in Malwa enabled the gradual expansion of Maratha power into the
region. Unlisted Variety in KM, test mark on rev overall very fine, rare.
