Hindu Medieval, Rajputs of Central India, Virasimhadeva (c. 11th-13th Century AD), Gold 2-1/4 Mashas, 1.79 gms, 15.44 mm, Obverse: Mounted horseman to right, Right hand holding a spear or javalin, Saddle and stirrup seen, Dotted border around, Reverse: Devanagari legend in two lines reading Shrimad Vira/Simhadeva’, Dotted border around, Being a newly discovered ruler, this coin is an enigmatic new addition to the interesting medieval Rajput coin series. The provenance of this coin is Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. The dynastic affinity of this ruler is still not traceable, but typologically, this coin is attributed to the Rajput dynasties that ruled in central India till the advent of Muhammad bin Sam, Deyell # D-153.1, pg. 299, very fine with complete motif and legend seen on flan, unique, exceedingly rare.
