Mughal, Muhammad Ibrahim (AH 1132-1133, 1720 AD), Silver Rupee, 11.34 gms, 21.11 mm, Dar ul-Khilafat Shahjahanabad Mint (mostly visible at top on rev), RY Ahd, Obv: Legend sikka-i-zad dar Jahan ba fazle karim, shahaan-e-shah Muhammad Ibrahim, Rev: Mint-name, RY and Jalus Maimanat Manus, Muhammad Ibrahim (AH 1132–1133 / 1720 AD) was a short-lived Mughal claimant who occupied the throne at Shahjahanabad (Delhi) for only a few weeks during the dynastic struggles that followed the death of Emperor Bahadur Shah I. A grandson of Bahadur Shah I, he was proclaimed emperor by a rival court faction, but his authority remained largely confined to the imperial capital and was never widely recognized. Later in 1720 AD, he was deposed by Muhammad Shah, ending one of the briefest reigns in Mughal history. Despite his ephemeral rule, the Shahjahanabad Mint struck silver rupees in his name, making these issues historically significant, highly sought-after, and considerably rarer than the regular coinage of longer-reigning Mughal emperors. His coinage stands as a tangible reminder of the political instability and rapid succession of rulers that marked the decline of centralized Mughal authority in the early eighteenth century, KM # 426.1, similar to Zeno # 299105, very fine, very rare.
