Mughal, Alamgir II (AH 1167-1173, 1755-1761 AD), Gold Mohur, 10.77 gms, 20.29 mm, Dar ul-Khilafat Shahjahanabad Mint (fully visible at bottom on rev), AH 1168, RY 2, , Obv: sikka mubarak abu al adil aziz ud din badshah ghazi muhammad alamgir within square, mint name with epithet and RY in margin, Rev: Kalima Shahada with square, name of four khalifa's with title in margin with AH date, Alamgir II (AH 1167–1173 / 1754–1759 AD) ascended the Mughal throne in 1754 AD during one of the final phases of the Mughal Empire, when real authority rested with the powerful Wazir Ghazi-ud-Din Imad-ul-Mulk. Although his reign was politically turbulent, it is of exceptional numismatic importance. Gold mohurs of Alamgir II bearing the Kalima are among the most desirable late Mughal gold issues, as they mark the revival of a long-abandoned imperial tradition. The Kalima, which had disappeared from Mughal coinage during the reign of Aurangzeb (Alamgir I), was restored under Alamgir II, making these coins a remarkable departure from the preceding century of Mughal monetary design. Combining historical significance, religious inscription, and the rarity of late Mughal gold coinage, Kalima-bearing mohurs of Alamgir II rank among the most collectible and sought-after issues of the eighteenth-century Mughal series, KM # 464.1, very fine, extremely rare.
