British India, King George V (1910-1936 AD), 2 Rupees 8 Annas, Lahore Circle, Signed by M.M.S. Gubbay, L Prefix, Serial no.: L5 031246, Watermark Enclosed Star, M.M.S. Gubbay signature. Lahore circle. An exceptional note and despite its fairly modest face value one of the key types from 20th century British India. This particular example of particular interest for having been issued at Lahore, in modern-day Pakistan. Typically seen in heavily circulated condition, this example faces up very well for the type, with fresh paper and good eye-appeal. This type was issued from 1918 to 1926 in relatively small quantities, making examples particularly scarce in the marketplace. Its issuing office is identified by the prefix in the serial number, with the L indicating issuance at Lahore. A fantastic example of this rare note and an opportunity for the Indian specialist not to be missed, KJ & RR # 3.3.1E, Pick # 2, Graded by PMCS as 20 Very Fine, extremely rare.
