Mughal, Muhammad Shah (AH 1131–1161, 1719–1748 AD), Silver Rupee, 11.36 gms, 21.56 mm, Bankapur Mint (visible at bottom on rev), issued under the Nawabs of Savanur, Such pieces can be attributed with certainty to the reign of Abdul Majeed Khan and, as he had a long reign almost mirroring that of Muhammad Shah, in general it follows that other similar issues may have been struck during his reign, too. In fact, it is conceivable that the change in design from simple legends to couplets may have been prompted in 1726 when Abdul Majeed succeeded Abdul Ghafoor as the Nawab, KM#434.7; CMN #662; History and Coinage by Dr. Bhandare JONS #192, p.26-35 fig. 12, fine+, very scarce.
