Ancient, Archaic Series, Punch Marked Coinage, Chedi re-struct by Vatsa janapada, Silver karshapana, 3.36 gms, 18.11 x 25.50 mm, The newer (left) side depicts 4 symbols of Vatsa janapada on ABCD pattern (scorpion with a taurine above it, sun, six-armed symbol and a fourth indistinct geometric symbol of probably a floral design). The earlier (right) side clearly shows a 4 symbol design (ABCC pattern) of a Bargama hoard type coin. Bargama hoard was found in Distt. Shahdol of MP (published by me in Numismatic Digest) and the coins of that hoard were attributed to Chedi mahajanapada. Thus this coin, which was probably earlier issued by Chedi has been re-struct by Vatsa on a later date. A very important coin, very fine, very rare.
