Ancient, Satavahanas, Gautamiputra Satakarni (c. 60-84 AD), overstrike on Nahapana, Silver Dramma, 2.19 gms, 17.53 mm, Obv. Overtype shows a three-arched hill with a wavy line below, Brahmi legend 4 to 8 O'clock reading ‘(Rano Gotami)putasa siri sa(takanisa)’, There is another set of Brahmi legends starting from 10 O'clock reading ‘…Siri Satakanisa’ suggesting that the overtype has been struck twice, Spear and thunderbolt symbol which forms the undertype is completely obliterated by the double strike of the overtype, Rev. Overtype has the modified Ujjain symbol, Undertype has Nahapana’s bust to right with traces of crude Greek legend around, These overstruck coins are historically significant as they stand testimony of the upper hand gained by the Satavahanas over the Kshaharatas in the later part of the 1 Cen AD, thus changing the course of ancient Deccan, Pieper # 2749, very fine, very rare.
